Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Once again, this is your host, Michael Wayne O'Neill, on The MWO Show! At this time, I would like to take us into a topic that should be talked about in the sports world. A variety of sports teams in the United States are docked fines for violating COVID-19 protocols. It's one thing to play safe on the fields and court, but it's another to make sure everyone protects each other from the virus. With this being said, fines are increasing steadily in all levels of sports.
First of all, I believe these fines would be a better consequence rather than postponing events, because players and coaches need to know how to proceed with their seasons by enforcing precautions. Secondly, I agree with this action as it will send people a reminder to wear masks and practice social distancing. For example, two NFL teams (the Las Vegas Raiders and the Pittsburgh Steelers) were both docked $750,000 in fines this week for going against COVID-19 standards. This comes to show that some teams lack the safety of themselves and their fans.

Up north, some businesses in Delaware are facing similar fine punishments. Specifically, the state's Division of Public Health fined BPG Sports $15,000, the largest penalty enforced in October. BPG Sports is the managing company for the 76ers Fieldhouse, an indoor youth training center. In this case, I would say this is reasonable to fine businesses as well, because limiting the spread of the virus is a big priority for our country. Everyone needs to be aware of who they are around and where they are gathering.
The virus has grown to the point where government officials would need to start fining anyone not following COVID-19 protocols. Especially in the sports world, the pandemic is not a joke. It is up to all of us to play safe, regardless of who we are. In my next blog, I will discuss the cancellations and postponing of sporting events in the US. Thank you so much for reading! Until next time, this is your host, Michael Wayne O'Neill, on the MWO Show.
